Preconference Workshops

Sexual Attitude Reassessment (SAR)
Monday, July 14 & Tuesday, July 15 • 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

SAR is an intensive two-day seminar including lecture, explicit media, experiential activities and small group discussions. The primary objective of the SAR is to give participants the opportunity to explore their attitudes, feelings and beliefs about sexuality and how this influences their professional interactions. The sessions are not intended as a traditional academic experience to disseminate cognitive information, nor as psychotherapy directed toward the resolution of personal problems. The workshop presents a highly personal, internal exploration, different for each participant.

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Increase their understanding of the wide spectrum of human sexual arousal and behavior and identify their attitudes, values, feelings and beliefs, including topics of comfort and discomfort
  • Increase comfort when addressing and discussing a wide range of sexual topics encountered in professional practice
  • Promote non-judgmental and respectful attitudes toward others whose attitudes, values, feelings, beliefs and sexual behaviors differ from the participant's
  • Increase awareness of the extent to which participants may assume their own attitudes, values, feelings and beliefs about particular aspects of sexuality are 'scientific facts' rather than personal attitudes, values, feelings and beliefs
  • Understand the relationship between spirituality and sexual health.

APPLE Meeting
Tuesday, July 15 • 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

This is when you and your fellow leaders in education and training shape the collective action that will move us forward as a field, as the Association of Planned Parenthood Leaders in Education (APPLE) works on its strategic plan.

We'll build on the Pledges and Priorities work done this past year and map out action steps for the upcoming year. You won't want to miss this opportunity to roll up your sleeves and create the future of the field and the movement with your colleagues from around the country! This fun and energizing day will be the ideal way to put the following 3 days into context. Whether you're brand new to APPLE or a seasoned member, you'll feel unified and hopeful after this day of work and play together.
